Are you a self-pronounced tree hugger? Do you take great pride in caring for trees? The Auburn Tree Commission has a new initiative to recognize those who go the extra mile to support Auburn’s tree canopy.

Auburn residents are invited to apply to become an Auburn Tree Steward, a designation that celebrates individuals who care for the trees on their property. No expertise is required! Applicants are not required to be tree professionals, foresters or arborists. You only need to demonstrate your commitment and care for the trees on your property.

As part of the evaluation process, applicants will host Tree Commission members for a brief visit to showcase the applicants’ support for and preservation of trees on their property. Those selected as an Auburn Tree Steward will have the option to receive a garden sign to place in their yard upon making a contribution of $20 to the Auburn Tree Trust to support Auburn’s urban tree canopy.

To apply, residents may fill out the application form and email it to urbanforestry@auburnal.gov.
